Italian meatballs in Tomatosauce

I really love this recipe. It's not difficult to make at all, but it's super tasty.

I usually eat these Italian meatballs in tomato sauce with spaghetti, but other types of pasta also go well with this: orecchiette, penne or rigatoni, for example. You can also put them on a sandwich, ameatball marinara subis always tasty. Put the meatballs and a little of the tomato sauce on a bun, grate a little Parmesan cheese over it and grill the sandwich in the oven. Tasty!

How do you make these Italian meatballs?

A few tips:

Be careful that the minced meat is not too moist. Then it is more difficult to roll good balls and they do not often become nicely round. If the mixture is too moist, it is best to add some breadcrumbs. Is it too dry? Then add some milk or a little more egg.
Would you rather use dried herbs? That also works fine, but you often have to add a little more because the taste of dried herbs is slightly less than fresh herbs. Add dried herbs to your tomato sauce at the end, otherwise they run the risk of becoming a bit bitter.
Do not set the heat under the pan of your tomato sauce too high. Let it simmer gently until the tomatoes (the passata) have become a bit sweeter.

The ingredients

These are all the ingredients you need for this recipe. Of course you can also vary yourself, for example by using other herbs.

For the meatballs:

Unseasoned minced meat:you can choose what you use, beef, half-and-half minced meat or a vegetarian option. Do you have seasoned minced meat? Then be careful with the herbs and salt and pepper, it quickly becomes too salty.
Bread-crumbs:You need this to make the meatballs firm, so that they do not fall apart during baking.
No:also for the firmness of the Italian meatballs.
Spices:I always use basil, oregano and rosemary. You can vary this quite a bit, because sage or thyme are also delicious.
Salt and pepper:of course salt and pepper to season everything.

For the sauce:

Oil:for frying the garlic, onion, carrots and celery. I usually use olive oil.
Garlic:always important, good Italian meatballs in tomato sauce cannot do without garlic.
Onion, carrot and celery:the trinity of Italian cuisine.
Passed:these are cooked and strained tomatoes. Passata is indispensable as a basic sauce and becomes sweeter when you cook it.
Salt and pepper:to season the tomato sauce.

Save? Which can!

You can keep the Italian meatballs in tomato sauce in the refrigerator for a few days.

Or freeze them and they will keep for a few months. Handy to make more of this recipe immediately, so that you always have some in your freezer.
