EASTERN ANATOLIA FAULT LINEWHERE IS IT, WHICH PROVINCES IS IT THROUGH?

Türkiye is located in the belt of Northern Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia and Western Anatolia fault lines. The Eastern Anatolian Fault begins with the Maraş Triple Conjunction at the northern end of the Dead Sea Crack and ends in the northeast direction at the Karlıova Triple Concatenation, where it merges with the North Anatolian Fault.

The Eastern Anatolian Fault Line continues until Hatay, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Elazığ, Bingöl, Muş and then merges with the North Anatolian Fault Line starting from Erzincan.

PROVINCES LOCATED ON THE NORTH ANATOLIAN FAULT LINE

According to the information obtained by AFAD, active faults pass directly through the city centers of 24 provinces, 6 on the Northern Anatolian Fault Line and the Aegean Region Graben System, 4 on the Eastern Anatolian Fault Line and 8 on other faults. In addition, more than 80 districts are directly on active fault lines.

The fault line extending in the east-west direction in the northern part of Turkey starts from Saros Gulf and extends to the Aras Valley in the Eastern Anatolia Region. This belt extends as a line passing through Gelibolu, the deep parts of the Marmara Sea, the Gulf of Izmit, Adapazarı, Düzce-Bolu, Gerede, Merzifon, Suluova, Erbaa-Niksar, the Kelkit valley and Erzincan, Erzurum, Varto and Van. Additionally, Çanakkale, Edremit, Bursa and Iznik remain within this belt.

PROVINCES LOCATED ON THE WESTERN ANATOLIA FAULT LINE

There are some active fault lines extending along the Bakırçay, Gediz, Küçük and Büyük Menderes depression plains in the Aegean Region. The earthquake zone that adapts to these fault lines; It includes Ayvalık, Dikili, İzmir, Aydın, Denizli, Isparta and Akşehir. In addition, faults extend on the edges of the Burdur and Acıgöl basins and on the northern foothills of the Sultan Mountains.

THERE ARE NO ACTIVE FAULTS IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA!
